Are you looking for great local ideas about building your next house or your renovation? Surf Coast Shire’s Sustainable Design Book is the perfect place to draw your inspiration from.
The Surf Coast Sustainable Design Book is an image-rich, attractive publication that encourages high quality building and landscape design that reflects the diverse environments of the Surf Coast Shire and the qualities that have attracted so many residents and visitors to the area.
Launched in Lorne last weekend, the book emphasises environmentally friendly, site responsive and attractive design that reflects the local area – be it a subdivision in Torquay or Winchelsea, an established area in Anglesea, Aireys Inlet or Lorne, a rural property or a bush block in the Otways.
The book provides great ideas about how you can work within planning legislation to build a more sustainable and enjoyable home to live in.
Mayor, Cr Libby Coker, said the Surf Coast Sustainable Design Book reflected the diversity of the Surf Coast Shire from the coast through the hinterland.
“There are great examples and suggestions in this wonderful book for home design that makes the most of the attributes of all areas of our Shire,” Cr Coker said.
Cr Coker stressed the Surf Coast Sustainable Design Book was not about creating more restrictions on housing development, but rather expert ideas and advice on how to build better homes on the Surf Coast.
“The book is a great educational resource and I certainly recommend it for builders, home renovators or anyone planning their dream home on the Surf Coast.
“The information also has the potential to reduce our community’s carbon footprint significantly and save home renovators and builders a lot of money in terms of energy costs.”
The book will be available in hard copy form from Council’s Grossmans Road Service Centre in Torquay, or in online form at www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au.
