BREAKING NEWS: Torquay man named as body in burned car

BREAKING NEWS: Torquay resident and businessman Mark Scherini has been named by Victorai Police as the likely body found in a burned car on Cape Otway Road last night.

Mr Scherini, 55, was last seen at work in Geelong at 10am (AEDT) yesterday and failed to toun up for an 11am meeting.

His distinctive car, a purple Mazda, was found on fire around 7pm last night at Wurdeeboluc Reservoir on Cape Otway Road.

According to the Herald Sun website, "Homicide Squad Detective Inspector John Potter said testing needed to be done before police could confirm that the body was that of Mr Scherini."

However police seem convinced the body is his and are treating the circumstances as suspicious, although they stress that Mr Scherini "was not known to them".

Mr Scherini managed a Geelong wholesale seafood business and was a board member of the Torquay Bowls Club. Bowls club members have been questioned by police today and report Mark to be a very friendly and active member of the club. He failed to appear for a board meeting last night.
