It’s back! The Aireys Inlet Open Mic Music Festival is once again set to bring music to your ears from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 March.
The annual Open Mic Festival celebrates music, the people who make it and the people who love to experience it live. Since it was first staged in 2008, the Festival has grown to be one of the largest music festivals in Australia with 160 acts and approximately 350 performers hitting 8 stages around the Aireys town this year.
Aireys Inlet Open Mic Music Festival features a range of performers – from the buskers stage, where anyone who’s ever strummed or crooned in the privacy of their own home gets a chance to do it in public, to first time live performers, through to experienced musicians and of course the very special mystery guest – entertaining audiences with music across a range of styles. What they all have in common is a love of music and a passion for performing live. Audiences are invited to simply rock up and rock out! Music lovers can spend a few hours in one of the indoor or outside venues, or take a bus from venue to venue throughout the whole weekend. All the organisers ask is that audiences pay what they think their experience was worth. With each act allocated a 30 minute set and over 160 to choose from, you’re sure to find something you like. And remember the more money appreciative audiences give, the more will be available to run future Open Mic Festivals.
For those looking to try their hand at making music, the Festival offers five fun and educational sessions across the weekend. The popular harmonica workshop returns and alongside it will be an African drumming workshop, a songwriting workshop, a jazz/rock drumming workshop and a guitar workshop.
Rumour has it that the Open Mic weekend will be the last weekend before the iconic Aireys Inlet Hotel closes its doors, which makes the final session at this year’s Festival even more special. Following on from Colin Hay’s awesome performance in 2010, the Festival promises another very special mystery guest to bring the weekend’s festivities to an appropriately celebratory close. So don’t miss all the action on Sunday 20 March from 4pm. It’s going to be huge!
