Top female creative talent heading to Aireys Inlet

A group of Australia's most talented female writers, directors and producers are set to head to Aireys Inlet on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 February for a huge Writers Weekend entitled Women on the Road.

Presented by Aireys Inlet's Great Escape Books, Women on the Road features a weekend of panel discussions and workshops at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall. TV producer Mary-Anne Carroll, author Kate Holden, writer and
cartoonist Judy Horacek, author Toni Jordan, author Cate Kennedy, screen producer Sue Maslin, author Alice Pung, broadcaster Amanda Smith and director Rachel Ward join Hannie Rayson to spill the beans on writing in their various industries.

Each of these talented women shares the highlights and embarrassments, the crises and the triumphs that got them to where they are today. What's involved in chasing a story? What are the similarities and differences in finding, writing and producing stories for different media? Is there a formula? Is there a secret?

On Saturday 19 February budding writers have a chance to learn some of the tricks of the trade with three very special literary workshops -

  • The Unpredictable Plotter with Toni Jordan,
  • Springing off the Page: Creating Great Characters with Cate Kennedy and
  • Re-enchantment: The Hidden Meanings of Fairy Tales with Sue Maslin.

In the evening, all of the Women on the Road participants will be on stage at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall for a behind-the-scenes look at life in the creative industries. Then on Sunday 20 February, four intimate panel sessions explore a range of issues to do with the craft of writing.
