Four local events that will make great contributions to life on the Surf Coast will receive a welcome boost through the Surf Coast Tourism Event Support Program this year.
Supported events receiving grants include:
• The Anglesea Music Festival, held throughout Anglesea on October 8-10.
• Toast to the Coast, held throughout Geelong and the Surf Coast on the weekend of October 30-31
• Froth and Bubble Literary Festival, to be held on 18-19 June 2011 in Torquay; and
• Buenos Aires at the Beach – Summer Tango Festival – to be held from 7-9 Januay 2011 in Anglesea.
Mayor, Cr Libby Coker, praised the cultural, social and economic contributions events make to life on the Surf Coast.
“Events are an important part of life all year round on the Surf Coast,” Cr Coker said.
“Surf Coast Tourism’s Event Support Program really helps foster and grow some important events on the Surf Coast. I congratulate all the operators and urge local people and visitors alike to enjoy these events.”
The Event Support Program provides resources and advice to help foster events that are likely to attract visitors to the region, particularly during off-peak periods.
The program also encourages event operators to reduce waste at events in collaboration with the Barwon Regional Waste Management Group, while post event reports are also required to evaluate the success of the event.
